This week, Mrs. Niewoonder's class learned about composing and decomposing numbers and representing 2 digit numbers using tens and ones. Student pairs played a game where they dropped popsicle sticks and then counted the groups of ten and the ones. They represented the tens and ones on their recording form and then wrote the number. They also practiced working together and taking turns!

Ms. Swopes’ 2nd graders are shining in their constructive conversations! They took it up a notch by discussing the read-aloud of the day in their new discussion groups. Each group had a guiding question and roles such as leader and time keeper to help everyone stay on track. Students practiced listening carefully, sharing ideas, and staying focused. Afterward, they came to the carpet to reflect on what went well, what didn’t, and how to make discussions even better. To finish, students nominated peers who showed excellent leadership—whether by guiding the group, giving feedback, or reading the questions. We’re loving the teamwork and positivity!

Mrs. Singletary's, Ms. E's, Mrs. Lopez's, and Mrs. Shannon's kindergarten class made exploding apples. We have been learning how to spell and identify our color words, and what better way to practice them than to mix colors and have them explode.

Mrs. Hanson and Mrs. Renfroe’s classes are off to the races to learn about C.E.R. in science. After posing the question, “Who is the fastest runner in our class?”, students raced outside, then used their results to state a Claim, back it up with Evidence, and provide solid scientific Reasoning. 🧠 🏃‍♂️📊

Ms. Swopes’ 2nd grade class powered through their first week with energy and excitement. We spent time building friendships and learning that family isn’t just at home—it’s here in our classroom too. After reading Our Class is a Family, students each made a special promise to help our class family grow strong. We linked our promises together into a chain—because in our room, we’re all linked like family!
